Employment Resources:

AIDS Foundation Houston

AIDS Outreach Center
Services offered include legal services aimed at assisting clients in remaining employed, as well as a workplace education class which "includes basic information, how to protect yourself and others, and treatments available. We also try to dispel the myths surrounding HIV and AIDS."

Alamo Area Resource Center - San Antonio
"Through a series of cooperative agreements and a history of solid working relationships, we have an established network of professionals who assist with medical and dental care, psychiatric care, substance abuse rehabilitation, health insurance assistance, housing location, job placement, hospice care, adjunctive care, and civil and criminal legal aid on a referral basis. Our case managers are also experienced in document preparation to access local VIAtrans, food stamps, and Social Security benefits."

Montrose Counseling Center
Individual, group, and therapy counseling is offered. Employment counseling is not specifically mentioned, but a number of possibilities are listed for potential counseling, including "financial crisis" and "personal growth".

Samaritan House
A number of services are offered, including life skills. "Samaritan House provides training in a variety of skills, such as job interviewing, computer skills, financial management, etc. The Hope Works program gives participants a full range of assistance in securing and keeping employment."

Triangle AIDS Network
Case management: "Each client is assigned to one of several case managers. TAN case managers assist their clients in many ways including, but not limited to, accessing medical care and information, locating and obtaining financial assistance, information and referrals related to housing, employment, psychological services and other social services. If TAN does not provide a service that a client needs, the client will be referred to another agency that does provide that service. The primary goal of Case Management is to increase access to all needed services."

This program will present updated information regarding HIV and employment issues. Recent case law involving "when HIV constitutes a disability under state and federal law" will be presented and discussed. The program will also address disclosure concerns and the right to confidentiality. Finally, the program will discuss reasonable accommodation requests, direct threat defense, and return-to-work issues.
